Your feet support the weight of your entire body. When a small problem develops in your feet, a subtle reaction in the way you walk causes a chain reaction that alters the way you move, the stress on your joints and your posture. Detecting and correcting these abnormalities could be the key to making you pain free.
How does it work?
Orthotics are insoles that fit comfortably inside your shoes to help restore normal balance and pressure on your muscles and joints, letting you get on pain free with your sport or daily life.
To determine if foot abnormalities are a cause of your pain and whether orthotics will be of benefit, your physiotherapist will combine their knowledge and experience with an assessment of your gait pattern (how you walk), alignment and foot mechanics.
To best suit your specific requirements be it, field sport, running, work boots, or steel caps, we can prescribe either: full length or 3/4 length orthotics; soft, medium or firm densities; or even low-profile orthotics designed for low-cut women shoes.
In most cases orthotics are intended for temporary use (2 to 6 months) and integrated with a physiotherapy treatment regime. Effectiveness is enhanced when orthotics are combined with a treatment program designed to correct the poor alignment and mechanics contributing to the problem. Some common complaints include:
- Plantar Fasciitis and Heel Spurs
- Metatarsalgia or Forefoot Pain
- Achilles Tendonitis
- Tibial Stress Syndrome or Shin Splints
- Patello Femoral Pain or Anterior Knee Pain
- ITB (Iliotibial Band) Friction Syndrome
- Lower Back Pain
- OsteoArthritis of the Feet, Knees and Hips
